The International Freedom of Expression eXchange (IFEX), www.ifex.org , is a network of 81 organisations worldwide that defend and promote the right to free expression. The IFEX Secretariat, or Clearing House, is based in Toronto, where it is managed by the IFEX member organisation Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE), www.cjfe.org .

Job Description Summary

The Action Alert Network Coordinator works with other Coordinators to:
* Edit, prepare and file action alerts, advisories, press releases, etc. from IFEX member material for timely distribution
* Disseminate prepared member materials by e-mail and on the IFEX website
* Regularly translate documents from Spanish into English
* Manage large flows of information received via various email accounts
* Assess, evaluate, compare, categorise and prioritise large volumes of informational material submitted by IFEX members
* Attend to ongoing IFEX member correspondence in English and Spanish
* Participate in overall IFEX programme and project development, team meetings, work planning and budgeting
* Represent IFEX at international meetings/conferences, and lead training workshops on action alerts, as required

Qualifications

* Fluency in English and Spanish; excellent written Spanish
* Excellent analytical, editing, communication, writing and proof-reading skills with strong attention to detail - journalism and news editing experience a strong asset
* Experience using word processing, computer communications and spreadsheet software
* Ability to accurately follow precise technical procedures
* Comfort and proficiency in working with electronic data management platforms
* Ability to work to deadline
* University degree in related discipline or equivalent experience - e.g., in journalism, political science, international development or Spanish
* Understanding of human rights, freedom of expression and democratic development issues
* Ability to exercise sound judgment while working independently and under pressure
* Diplomacy and proven ability to work with people from various cultures and backgrounds
* Excellent organizational and administrative skills, strong attention to detail
* Must be eligible to work in Canada

Terms and Conditions

* Salary: $45,000 plus comprehensive benefits package
* Toronto-based position
