Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) has an entry-level opening for an administrative coordinator. CJFE is a Toronto-based non-governmental organization which works to defend the rights of journalists and contribute to the development of free expression throughout the world. One of its main projects is managing the International Freedom of Expression eXchange (IFEX), a freedom of expression clearing house for 81 organizations worldwide. CJFE seeks a highly-organized, good-humoured, detail-oriented team player who is interested in assisting with administrative duties in a variety of areas. Responsibilities:

  • Managing the physical resources of the organization, including office equipment and space, and ensuring they are adequately inventoried, maintained, in order to maintain an efficient and professional environment
  • Managing information technology and overseeing local network administration
  • Implementing office procedures and operations
  • Reception
  • Logistics support for events and meetings – board and committees, including but not limited to tasks such as minute-taking, filing and scheduling
  • Back-up support for bookkeeping functions
  • Administrative support as needed by the Executive Director
  • Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in MSWord, Excel, Word Perfect, experience with the Internet, e-mail and database software, knowledge of HTML an asset
  • Strong organization and administrative skills; setting priorities, developing a work schedule, monitoring progress towards goals, and tracking information and activities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English, French an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact and deal effectively with a wide range of individuals.
  • 1-3 years experience in an office setting.
  • Understanding of human rights, freedom of expression and democratic development issues an asset

  • SPECIAL CONDITIONS
    There will be a review of the job duties and responsibilities at the end of the first six months. This position requires some overtime hours on evenings and weekends, such as attending Board and committee meetings and providing onsite administrative support at special events.
